lists 1 through 11 for each student. I don't usuallly
print back to back because the backside gives me a
place to take notes while testing students.
I place a tab with the student's name
at the start of each student's records and place them
in alphabetical order in the binder to make it easy
for anyone to find a particular student.
Generally, I test students every week
or two. I may retest a child a couple of days
after their test if they were very close to passing.
I like to test my students myself. I want to
see first hand the errors they are making and I like
to capture a teachable moment for the individual student.
The columns give you a place to check
off the words that the student knows. They need
to read the words with automaticity---otherwise they
don't know them by sight. You can use flashcards
for testing, allowing you to mix up the words or you
can use the word lists in their practice booklets.
18-20 words correct is considered
a pass. Stamp, star or sticker the child's study book
when they pass a test. Give the student a sheet
of flashcards to take home to study. Ask the
student to read the new words to you. If the child
hesitates on a word, tell him the word immediately
and point out anything that would help the child learn
the word. (phonetic elements, rhymes with another
word, chunks...) |
