These
Magellan penguins
were photographed in March, 2000 on the Otway Gulf
Coast located 40 kilometers north of the city of Punta
Arenas in Chile's Patagonia. Of the 17 species of
penguins in the world, 9 of them live in Chile. These
Magellan penguins nest at Seno Otway between September
and March.
The photographs
on this website, were taken by my son Jason Gursky
and Kari Lindauer in December of 1998 and me in March,
2000. Jason and Kari visited Seno Otway during "baby"
season, and I was there during the "molting"
season.
The information
on this web site was collected from Chilean brochures,
the ranger station bulletin board at Seno Otway, discussions
with the ranger at Seno Otway, and my own observations.
Hopefully what is presented is accurate. Much of my
reading was translated from Spanish to English.
